lour Own Correspondent J HOKITIKA, Sept 12. Flight Sergt. A. J. Knowles at present on furlough from the Pacific, is visiting friends in the district. Hon. J'. O’Brien, Minister of Marine and Transport visited Hokitika on Monday afternoon. Dr. Corban, left South Westland last week for Remuera, Auckland, where he will take over the medical practice of Dr. Pezarro. He was accompanied by Mrs. Corban and family. Wintry southerly weather has prevailed since the week-end, when there was considerable rain with some flooding, and heavy seas. At -the South Westland Women’s Institute Federation Conference here Mrs. Peebles (Ross) presided. The Health Department expressed thanks for the help given by; all West Coast Institutes with the mobile health exhibit. It was decided that the next meeting .of the Federation be held at Kumara on October 19. Mrs. Dunn gave an interesting account of the recent conference held in Wellington. Masters Gilbert and Stanley Northcroft of Wataroa, South Westland, received a grading certificate of 96 points for honey, full points being secured for colour and condition, with 41.10 points out of 45 for flavour. The general description of their honey was: “Rata and mixed sources; delicate flavour; granulated condition, district grain.” The lads are sons of Mr. Geo. Northcroft, and it was their first lot of honey for commercial use. Mr. T. Mitchell of Dunedin has been appointed to succeed Mr. H. Bowe as Postmaster at Hokitika, and is expected to take over within tne next two weeks. The Bond Waggon visited Hokitika yesterday and created a favourable impression. After a performance in Weld Street the party visited the hospital and gave a pleasing entertainment to the patients. The waggon; left this morning.
