ALLIED MUNITIONS
OUTPUT FOUR TIMES ABOVE AXIS. WASHINGTON, Sept 4. The British, American, and Canadian Combined Production Resources Board has reported that the Allies’ munitions output is almost four times the Axis output. They warned that the production of many strategic materials must be stepped up to meet increasing combat and relief requirements. Forthcoming .offensives would require, larger and faster 'planes, also electronic devices, landing craft, cargo vessels, heavy trucks, and munitions. Production will rea'ch a peak in 1944, in the latter period . of which there is a prospect that Canada and America may increase the production of civilian goods. There is little likelihood of the United Kingdom easing its rationing until some time after the Germans fall. The Board has reported that there are critical shortages of coal, textiles, woodpulp, paper, and medical supplies. There are adequate supplies of machine tools, steel, couper, aluminium, and magnesium. The Board said the three member nations will supply relief materials for the liberated areas on a co-opera-tive basis.
The shortages of coal and of textiles will be aggravated as additional territory is liberated.
