Hon. J. O’Brien, Minister of Transport and Marine, arrived on Saturday, from Christchurch. Mesdames L. ar/1 A. Wilson returned on Saturday from the North Island. Rev. A. W. E. Sylvester;, of the Solomon Islands Methodist Mission, arrived at Greymouth on Saturday. The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary. Ann Methven, of Ahaura, took place, at Karoro on Saturday afternoon, being largely attended. Rev. Spracketi:, of Reefton, conducted the service at Sampson’s Chapel, while the graveside service was conducted by Rev. 1. G. Campbell. Mr. A. E. Dobbie, S.M., has been appointed to fill the vacancy in Wellington caused : by the transfer of Mr. W. C. Harley, SIM., to Whangarei. Mr. Dobbie, who held among other offices that of Registrar of .the Supreme Court and Clerk of the Court at Invercargill, was recently appointed a temporary Magistrate at Christchurch. Brigadier Stanley A. Harris, of Sydney, has been appointed to succeed Lieut-Colonel S. A. Church as editor of the “War Cry” in Wellington. Brigadier Harris has been an officei’ of the Salvation Army for 37 y.ears. For 12 years he' was at international headquarters in London, and was then transferred to Australia. The death occurred at Greymouth Hospital on Saturday evening of Mr. William Edward Batey, of Dobson, after a lengthy illness. A native of Northumberland, the late Mr. Batey; was 42 years of age, and came 16 years ago to Dobson. He was engaged at the Dobson mine until four Jl'eh'rs ago, when ill health obliged him to retire. Besides his wife, residing at Dobson he leaves one son. The funeral, takes place this afternoon. The funeral of the late Mr. James Buchanan, of Dunollie, which toojc place at Karoro cemetery, on Saturday afternoon was largely attended. The cortege was led by two pipers, Piper Major Boyle and Piper D. Boyle of the Greymouth Highland Pipe Band, of which deceased was a member, and a guard of honour was formed by the band at the graveside. „ Rev. W. S. JJrettel conducted the services at the residence, Dunollie, and at the cemetery. The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Amelia O’Brien, of Nelson Creek, took place on Saturday morning at Karoro cemetery, being largely attended. Solemn Requiem Mass was conducted at Nelson Creek by toe Rev. Father S. O’Brien, of Christf church, assisted by Rev. Fathers A. C. Gregory, Brown, Galvin (Christchurch), O’ Mahoney, J. Holohan, Finnerty, and Kean (Hokitika?. Rev. Father Brown assisted by the other priests, conducted the service at the graveside. Guests at Revington’s Hotel, include:— Col. H. Richardson, Lieut. A.
