KUMARA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent; Mrs. A. Birss leaves by this morning’s express for Invercargill. Mrs. D. Geary, of Christchurch, is visiting friends in Kumara. Mr. John Holmes has received the sad news that his mother, Mrs. Ann Barbara Holmes. Jias died in Welington in her 88th„ year. The late Mrs. Holmes was born at Ross and for very many years lived at Kumara, where she was .a highly respected resident. In recent years she has lived in Wellington with her daughter, Mrs. B. Miles. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. G. H. Russell (Greymouth), Mrs. B. Miles (6 Bank Read, Wellington), and Mrs. F. Gembitsky (Auckland), and two sons, Mr. Richard Holmes (Upper Moutere), and Mr. John Holmes (Kumara). There are fifteen grand children and fourteen great grand children.

There was a large attendance of members at a general meeting of the Kumara branch of the R.S.A. held in the Fire Brigade Room on Saturday night. Mr. James 'Brown, (President), presided. Before the meeting began the President referred to

the death on active service of Brigad’er Hargest. who had been on active service in the last war, and in the years that followed had taken a keen interest in the R.S.A. All members stood in silence as a mark of respect. Several matters appertaining to the general welfare of the Association were discussed in cbmmittee. The Hokitika R.S.A. extended a cordial invitation to Kumara members to visit Hokitika for their reunion. Several members of the Hokitika R.S.A. accompanied their secretary (Mr. Geo. Gilchrist), who gave a detailed account of his recent visit to the National Conference, recently held in Wellington.
