AUCKLAND TOTE FIGURES AUCKLAND, Aug. 14. The fact that taxation was still a very heavy burden on the sport of racing was emphasised this afternoon by Mr E. Nicholson, president of the Auckland Racing Club, ! n the annual address to members. For the nine days’ racing during the past season £152,780 had been collected frotfi the club by the Government. Of this, the tctalisator tax accounted for £79,403 and dividend tax £69,474. Mr Nicholson added that the net profit for the year, £4678 would again be distributed for patriotic purposes. Fresh records have been experienced in tote investments, both as to single race and the daily and yearly turn-over On the Auckland Cup £53,616 was invested, and the amount for eight events on Box'ng Day was £229,157 The "rand total for nine days of the year was £1,588,073 an increase over the previous year of £224.402.
