Now Showing: “Mister Big” starring Donald O’Connor and Gloria Jean; also “Call of the Canyon,”

starring Gene Autry. Parading a line-up of extraordinary youthful talent, the novel comedy musical, “Mister Big” is now showing at the Opera House. Donald O’Connor, one of Hollywood’s most remarkable juvenile performers has the starring role and with him are Gloria Jean and Peggy Ryan. The theme of the story of a jive-crazy gang of kids determined to sing and dance, but handicapped by a classical School of the Theatre, is one of the breeziest items of movie diversion -to come from Hollywood in many seasons. Other prominent players in the fine cast, are Robert Paige, Elyse Knox, Samuel S. Hinds. O’Connor, Gloria J’ean and Peggy Ryan preseilt eight special tunes, whilst other prominent numbers are offered by the celebrated Ben Carter Choir and Ray Eberle with Eddie Miller’s Bob Cats. “CALL OF THE CANYON” Tops in action, music and thrills. Gene Autry, crooning Western hero, is now on the screen of tMe Opera House, in his most sensational screen triumph, “Call of the Canyon”, with Smiley Burnette, Ruth Terry and The Sons of the Pioneers in featured roles. The film presents Autry as spokesman for a group of cattlemen who leads them in rebellion when the Johnson Packing Company through their agent offers them 60 dollars a head for cattle though the company had agreed on 80 dollars, the agent hoping through the crooked deal to pay off some gambling debts. Into the ensuing turmoil comes a pretty girl who sells the packing company a rad’o programme which includes such Western songs as “Call of the Canyon,” “Boots and Saddle”, “Somebody Else is Taking My Place,” “Montana Plains.” “When It’s Chilly Down in Chile” and “Coronation March.”
