ARGENTINE POLICY

U.S.A. Reaction

(Rec. 10.40) WASHINGTON, June 29. The State Department published ; the text of a recent speech by -tne Argentine War- Minister, Senator Peron, who asserted that it makes no difference to the Argentine who wins the war. He added that if the Argentine cannot achieve its political objectives diplomatically, it must undertake to prepare the best conditions for achieving them forcibly. For this reason the Argentine must build up a powerful heavy industry, with governmental aid. According to the American Press Agency, the speech aroused more intense interest among Washington officials than any other recent South American announcement. Those in informed quarters linked the speech with the recent recalling of the U.S.A. Ambassador to Argentina, M. Armour. The Associated Press added other American moves were reported to be under consideration. It is reported that the Argentine Government seized the ,Bember‘g property, one of the largest privatelyowned fortunes in South America and one oil the great family fortunes of the world. The family’s holdings in the Argentine alone are estimated at one thousand millio: ? dollars. Argentne Nationalist newspapers however, have explained that the seizure is part of the Government investigation into the alleged inheritance taxes fraud. Observers, however point out that the military Government, which is committed to a total war defence programme requires large sums for armament. (Rec. 11.15) ASHINGTON, June 29. The .Argentine Ambassador here has announced that Argentina "and Germany have completed reciprocal arrangements for the repatriation of diplomats and other officials. An exchange ship will sail under safe conduct guarantees from Argentina between July 6 and 12 for Eisbon, where the exchange will be effected. '
