DENNISTON NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent.J ■ Mr. and Mrs. S. Braggins, Denniston, is at present visiting Christchurch. where Mr. Braggins is undergoing medical treatment. Mr. T. Smythe is at present visiting Christchurch. Misses J. Allan and A. Morrison have returned after completing six months nursing training at the Christchurch Hospital. While returning to 'her home on Tuesday night, Mrs J. Madden had the misfortune to fall and break an arm.

Following the fall of a piece of coat on his back in the Coalbrookdale mine

on Wednesday morning, Mr. C. Warson was removed to the Buller Hospital. wher e it was discovered that no bones had been broken. His condition is reported to be satisfactory. A very successful school ball was held in the local picture theatre on Friday night. There was a good attendance of children an,d adults. The programme consisted of items and 'dancing, and a dance followed. Supper was served in the Masonic Hall. Music was supolied bv Mrs. F. Millbanks, with Mr. J. Rogers on the drums. Mr. W. Ledgard acted as M.C. The Headmaster (Mr. W. Hampton) thanked all who had helped to make the ball a success.

Basketball games played during the week-end resulted: —Denniston Old Girls 11, Kawatiri 12 (at Westport) ; Denniston High School and Westport Hospital drew, 16 all.
