MILK STRIKE
DAIRYMEN HESITATE.
(Rec. 5.5.) SYDNEY, May 19. The dairymen decided to postpona their threatened strike, which was to have started to-day. This str.Re threat followed the Federal Government’s refusal to grant a subsidy to dairymen of three and a-half pence per gallon for milk supplied to Sydney and Newcastle. The Government has agreed to pay two and ahalf pence per gallon. The dairymen have now suggested that the New South Wales State Government should supplement the Federal subsidy by addition of one penny per gallon until the Federal Government completes its promised inquiry into, the matter. The payment of three and a-half pence per gallon, it was said, would mean that the dairy farmers would receive- Is 7Jd per gallon. That price was recommended by the New South Wales Milk Board.. The cost of two pence half-penny subsidy to the Federal Government .will be three hundred and sixty thousand pounds a year.
