Public Inquiry Urged ALLEGATION against ENGINEERS AND WORKERS. PA NELSON, May 16. Mr S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition to-day sent the following telegram to Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Works. “In view of the seriousness of allegations against both the engineers and the workmen employed ffi g Sr construction of the Turakina and Fordell tunnels, plus the impressions which I gained when I inspected the failure myself, together with revelations in reports which you have made available to me, I very stronglv urge that any enquiry should be .open to the public, who will have to find hundreds of thousands of pounds required to rectify faulty design and workmanship. In common fairness, those charged with the responsibility for this colossal waste Of public money should have every .opportunity of publicly; defending or clearing themselves, and the public ha’s a right to demand that the responsibility for what has happened should be sheeted right home. In view of your vigorous and proper denunciation of those who are responsible, I hope you will not provide them with the shelter of a private enquiry behind closed doors.
