LOCAL ELECTIONS
BRUNNER BOROUGH. There will be contests for the Brunner Borough Council and one seat on the Power Board. Following are the nominations, an asterisk indicating sitting members:— Mayor.—Walter Newman Gutberlet (elected unopposed). _ T n The retiring Mayor, Mr. J. Smeaton, has held the office for over seventeen years, and he was previously for two years a member of the Borough Council. Mr. Smeaton, who is also retiring from other public positions, has been Brunner representative on the Power Board, Hospital Board, and Harbour Board. Mr. Gutberlet, who has been a Councillor for twelve years, is also elected unopposed to the Hospital Board. Borough Council (six seats)—Harold Browning, "George Harry Seiwyn Eder, "Thomas Harper, Thomas Kilkelly, *Francis Edward 1 Lockington, *Thomas William Morgan, John McNeish, Thoma's Peter Quinn. Grey Hospital Boaro (one seat). — Walter Newman Gutberlet (elected unopposed). Grey Power Board (one seat).— Francis Edward Lockington, William McGilchrist. Mr. McGilchrist is a member of the staff of the Power Board. RUNANGA BOROUGH. Mr. E. Kennedy has been re-elected' unopposed as Mayor of Runanga, making the fourth instance of a West Coast borough re-electing its Mayor on this occasion. There are 1245 electors in Runanga. Following are the nominations: —• Mayor.—*Ernest William Kennedy, (re-elected unopposed). Borough Council (6 seats) —’Claude Barrow, Samuel Braithwaite, Thomas Coles, Joseph James Devine, Arthur Thomas Gilligan. Robert Hambley, -James Leslie Arthur Luff, Richard Nelson, Arthur O’Neil, Patrick Francis Pollock, Mrs. Mary Ethel Timlin, "William Athol Williams, Mrs. Rebecca Wright (13 candidates). , Hospital Board (1 seat). — 'Frank John Oakley, Stanley Arthur O’Neil. Grey Power Board (1 seat). —Leonard Norbury Downes, James Piner, John Yarrow Rutherford, William Athol Williams. Grey Harbour Board (Brunner and Runanga combined, 1 seat). —Joseph James Devine, Ernest William Kennedy, John Yarrow Rutherford.
