WESTPORT NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent!. WESTPORT, May 13.

The Kiwitea is loading for Auckland. The Te Aroha is expected to sail to-day for Little Wanganui and Wellington. The Kaimai is-expected from Wellington on Monday. Mr, and Mrs. N. A. Wadsworth have left on a visit to Takaka. Mr. J. Mclndpe, formerly Clerk oi th'e Court at Westport, and now of Dunedin, and Mrs. Mclndoe, are visiting Westport. A dislocation of Westport’s powersupply occurred at about 6 a.m. yesterday. when an opossum climbed a pole at the foot of Waimangaroa Hill. The dead opossum caused a permanent short circuit and the top of tne pole was burnt away. On a charge of the theft of £l2 from the Auckland Waterfront Commission, J. J. McMahon, ship’s tireman, who was arrested at Westport, was remanded to appear at Auckland on Friday by Mr. F. H. Morgan, J.P., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Nominations received by the Westport Borough Returning Officer, Mr. P. Morgan, yesterday were: Borough Council: Messrs W. P. Caldwell, A. T, Ridsdale, C. H. Thomas, H. J. Adams, and T. Shaw. Hospital Board: Mrs. M. C. Robertson anil Mrs. E. B. Riusdale, Messrs W. P. Caldwell and J. Mears.

Nominations for the elections closed at the Buller County Office yesterday at mid-day. In two of the nine County ridings. Charleston ana Lyell. Messrs J. H. Powell and V. M. E. Della Vedova respectively, have been re-elected unopposed. Other nominations are:-—Karamea Riding: F. W. Musson, E. James, W. H. Gourley. .Mokihinui Riding: J. N. Niven and. S. R. Johnston. Millerton Riding: W. H Mclntyre and F. A. Connew. Ngakawau Riding: I. L. Tyler and John Dowgray. Waimangaroa Riding: R. J. Hawes and J. Ward. Wereata Riding: M. Durkin, J. b. Callaghan and E. L. Roberts. Wereata South Riding: D. J. Archer and L. M. O’Neill. The following 10 nominations have been received for the live County seats on the Buller Hospital Board: J. Dowgray, W. H. Gourley, R. J. Hawes, E. James, C. Murray, F. W. Musson, W. PI. Mclntyre, J, N. Niven, Mrs. O. Tyler and J. Ward.
