For nine months of the racing year, from 1/7/43 to 3/3/44, the totalisat.or turnover amounted to £4,648,340. This easily beats the previous record for the State for any full racing year. The bookmakers’ turnover of £22,773,200 for nine months is a record since the half per ’cent, tax on the turnover was imposed in 1940.
