The fishing trawler Mary Ellen, which has been wrecked at Paremata is well-known on the Coast. She was built in 1910 as a tug for the Nelson Harbour Board. From 1915 she was operated by Mr Alf Thompson and Roderique Bros, from Westport and, occasionally from Greymouth, as a fishing- vessel. Last year; Mr R. A. Roderique had her converted from steam to Deisel and he took her to Wellington in January. The Mary Ellen was a pioneer fishing boat of the Coast.
