SCHOOL GUIDANCE CARD
TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO PARENTS. WELLINGTON, May 2. Keen interest was shown in the educational and vocational guidance card system at last night’s meetings of householders to elect school committees, and at some there was considerable discussion. At the Hataitai School meeting it was announced that the card would be accessible to parent's, a point on which there has been much misgiving up to now. At Northland approval of the card system was expressed, and at the Te Aro School the householders’ meeting strongly .opposed vocational guidance cards. Among the householders present at the Hataitai meeting was Mr. G. C. Burton, who .is in charge of the Vocational Guidance Cefitre. in Wellington. He said that instructions had been given by the Director of Education that the cards were to be accessible to parents of any child at the request .of the parents. Mr. H. R. Searle, who presided and introduced the subject of the card system, said he was glad to hear that. What Mr. Burton had stated, he added, threw a good deal of light on a “rather dark corner.” Later in the meeting, Mr. Burton, at the invitation of the chairman, explained the purpose of the card and the extent to which it would be used. His explanation was taken in committee.
