GERMANS IN DENMARK
LONDON, April 27.
The Germans have thrown a complete iron curtain around Denmark, behind which they are believed to be preparing for some major action. Two conflicting explanations are offered for the sudden Nazi activity affecting Denmark. Firstly, it is a defensive move against the threat of Allied invasion, aim the mounting sabotage within Denmark. Secondly, Germany may be preparing for an offensive of her own. against Sweden. Reports from Stockholm say the German Air Force and German airborne troops in Denmark have been strongly reinforced and large detachments of troops are being posted at strategic points on the Danish coast. Military observers point out that the German troops movements could support either defensive or offensive operations. Reports reaching Stockholm before all communications with Denmark were severed told of day and night work by Germans to strengthen anti-invasion defences. Reuter’s Stockholm correspondent quotes a usually reliable source in. direct contact with Copenhagen as saying that a considerable- number of British and Danish parachutists trained in Britain were recently dropped in Denmark, mainly caused the increased German terror. The correspondent is of the opinion that the mostly likely explanation of Denmark’s isolation is the German desire to cut underground organisations and communications with Sweden, from where directions, money and explosives are being received.
