P. C. Webb and' his staff returned by am to Wellington to-day. Messrs C. Howard, J. M. Fairbairn and J. C. Brown text to-day for Nelson where they will attend the local bodies’ conference. Mr. Rohan Moloney, of Wellington, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Moloney, Russell Street. Mr. E. J. Chapman, Assistant District Traffic Manager, Christchurch, is visiting Westport. The women of Westport are requested to attend a public meeting in the Borough Council mqeting room on Friday, at 3.30 p.m., at which the Mayoress, Mrs. Robertson, will preside. The object is to consider the formation of a nursery play centre, which, it is said, would free mothers here of the care of their small children for at least a half day a week, and the children would enjoy organised play with other children. Mrs. M. M. Dunningham will address the meeting and explain how nurseryplay centres function in other towns. The following donations are acknowledged by the Buller Committee: For 1944 appeal: Westport United Dairies, £2 3s 4d; for soldiers’ parcels; Miss F. Dellavedova, Three, Channel Flat', £1 16s; Anonymous, Granity '6s. The football season opens next Saturday and the following fixtures are announced by the Rugby Union: Senior Shield: United v. Combined at trotting track, 2.45 p.m. (Reteree, F. McGreevy); Rangers v. Ngakawau at Millerton, 2.45 p.m. (Referee, A. Burgess). Junior Shield: Rovers v. Pirates at Denniston, 2.45 p.m. (Referee, R. Pratt); and Mokihinui a bye; Phillips Cup: Star v. Technical School at Technical grounds 1.15 p.m. (Referee S'. Stewart); Rovers v. Pirates, at Denniston 1.15 p.m. (Referee W. Smythe). The mobile health exhibit conducted by the Health Department was opened in the Theatre Royal yesterday and was the source of useful mformation to the many people who attended. The exhibit closes tonight. Nominations for both Westport primary school committees exceed the number required and elections are to be held next Monday. F'or the South School 11 nominations have been received: Messrs ( T. Mathewson, G. M. Maxwell, C. Sara, P. E. Trevella, H. A. Levestam, J. Hutt, J. V/. Weaver, A. R. Ness, J. K. Clark, W. R. Champion and P. R. Egan. For Westport North (10 nominations): Messrs R. Blair, E. Fair, S. Davies, K. Goodman, C. Kearns, W. Mann, J. Madden, G. Mockett, D. McLellan and K. Smith. At a recent meeting of the executive of the Ratepayers’ Association, it was decided to support the Borough Council’s decision to sell the municipal sections to the Government Housing Department.
