SECOND FRONT
British Envoy’s Opinion [Aus. & N.Z. Press. Assn.] (Rec 10.15) CANBERRA, April 27. Doctor Thomas Wood, a British .author, is visiting Australia at the request of the British Government to publicise the British war effort. He stated here that “while not prophesying,” it was his opinion that a second front in Europe could not be opened for about another three weeks, because the weather was not likely to be suitable until then. The attitude of the British people towards a second front was no longer an impatient one. Earlier agitations had died,' and the great body of people had been prepared, since last December, to await the judgment ot those who knew best.
He did not think that the European war was going to be short or cheap. There would still be fearful casualties.
