HOKITIKA NOTES

1 (Our Own Correspondent) HOKITIKA, March 15. The “Navy Knights” revue was presented here last night’ by a Greymouth company headed by Mr Eddie Martin. The house was packed to capacity, and the show was voted a big success. T'he performers were thanked by the Mayor, Mr A. R. Elcock for coming to Hokitika, and putting on such a wonderful show. At the conclusion the visitors were entertained at supper by the Patriotic Committee. Mr A. Armstrong presided at the' meeting of the School Committee, which decided to forward a letter of congratulation to Hon. F. W. Schramm. Speaker of the House, an old boy of the school. It was decided to ask the Rector to arrange for the school to link up with the Country Library system. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr T. Coyle for his efforts to assist the school. The Rector (Mr E. M. Stevens) reported the primary roll numbered 292 and the secondary 116. Attendance had been affected by whooping cough, but otherwise was satisfactory. Mrs Stevenson had terminated her war-time position as teacher, and Miss Robinson (parttime instructor in commercial work) had for health reasons to apply for leave of absence. The Board's foreman had noted repairs to be carried out. The school swimming pool was under construction an d good progress was being made.
