CUSTOMS RETURNS
CHRISTCHURCH. P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 1. Revenue collected by the Customs Department in Christchurch during •'he financial year 1943-41 is so far considerably in excess of the amount collected for the corresponding period in the previous year. The detailed figures for January and for the 10 months of the financial year, with the corresponding figures for last year in parenthesis, are as follows:— January:—Customs £44,364 (£54,17V); beer £22 628 (£19,848); sales tax £45,165 (£43,727). war expenses £132.005 (£132,095). Total £244,162 (£249,849). „„„ Ten months:—Customs £529,167 (£588,177); beer £219,189 (£185,555); war expenses £1,299,806 (£1,158,218). Total: £2,465,253 (£2,376,465). AUCKLAND. P.A AUCKLAND, Jan. 31. Revenue collected by the Customs Department in January amounted to £616 204, a decrease of £1,748. compared with the same month last year. The figures for the month, with those for January, 1943 in Parenthesis, are as follows:—Customs £160,532 (fIYSSJO); excise .bn /beer £38<636 (£36,342); sales tax £106,596 (£104,203) • war expenses account £310,44U (£301,451). Customs figures for January are as follows, with last year’s figures in parenthesis: Net customs £197,918 (£229,444); beer £18.073 (£14,133), sales tax £93,154 (£96,532); war tax £363,312 (£363,532). DUNEDIN. P.A. DUNEDIN, Jan. 31. Following are the customs returns for the port of Otago for January, with the figures for the corresponding month last y in parenthesis: —Customs duty £24,489 (£35,800). beer duty £35,863 (£35,544); sales tax £31,574 (£32,231); war expenses account £118,379 (£119,515).
