AUCKLAND’S WATER SHORTAGE. AUCKLAND Jan, 31. To conserve Auckland’s water rest hves the City Council, to-day banned the use of hoses in private gardens. Since the dams wore full at the end of October the quantity in storage has fallen bv one-third', and to-day totalled 1,003,000,006' gallons. The consumption to-day is at the highest summer level of ' 18,500,000 gallons daily, and reserves are being drawn upon to the extent of 1.2,000,000 gallons a day. The ban does not applv to commercial gardens. The industrial demand for water is particularly Heavy.,
