.. lour Own Correspondent.] ■■ HOKITIKA, Jan. 27. 1 The death occured to-day at West- - land Hospital of Mr. W. Glass, a welL ' known farmer of Harihari, a native - of South Westland, and 35 years of '■ age. Besides his mother he leaves - four brothers, James, Charles, David - and John, of Harihari, and two sisters ' Mrs. G. Deakin (Totara' Flat) and I Mrs. A. Dehn (Wataroa). The funeral will take place at Harihari cemetery to-morrow afternoon at two o’clock The funeral of the late Mr. D. J. - Evans took place this afternoon, the “ cortege being a very lengthy one, - and there beingl a' large number ■ present at All Saints’ Church, where , ReV. H. A. Childs officiated, the Les- - son being read by Mr. D. A. Young, ’ and the Hymn, “Abide with Me” sung. ' Members of the R.S.A. formed a - guard of honour at the home, at the " entrance to the church and at the ■ cemetery. The Member for West- : land, Hon. J. O’Brien, Minister of • Transport and Marine, whose ab--1 sence at Dunedin prevented his bein" present, was represented by Mr. J. - A ° Murdoch. The County Councillors were all present, Messrs G. Rowley (Chairman), R. J. Bradley, P. J. McLean T. P. O’Neil, W. A. Jamieson, N Harris, J. Donovan, W. T. N. Eond, and W. Searle. The Mayor Mr. Elcock, represented with the Councillors the Borough of Hokitika. Others present in a representative capacity were Messrs S. J. Preston (Savings ' Bank Directors), M. H. Houston and ■ F. McGregor (Westland Racing Club), G. Gilchrist and R. Paterson ’ (RUS.A.), 'G. Bryant (N.Z. Freemasons). and E. W. Heenan, T. W. Duff and H. Hughes (Westland Hos- • pital Board). Among Greymouth citizens present were Messrs F. A. Kitchingham (Mayor), Hon. John Rvall, M.L.C., J. B. Kent (Chairman Harbour Board), P. C. Heaphy (Greymouth Trotting Club), T. E. Coates, A. Beban. H. Moore (Greymouth Jockey Club). Mr. A. H. Lawn represented the Inangahua County Council. The pall-bearers were Messrs G. Rowley) R. Paterson, G. Gilchrist., S.' J. Preston, M. Houston and G. Brvpnt. The hearse was followed bv a lorry loaded with floral tributes, in addition to which the relatives rej ceived from all parts of the Dominion ’ telegraphic expression of condolences. Last evening a carnival was held J by the Baths Committee, £2B being realised. Good performances in " swimming were those of the Coulson - sisters and Juliet Freitas a"ed 10, ex- ■ celled in diving, as also did V. Berg- ?. amini. who, in an exhibition, set a record with a dive of fifty-seven fentin trials, however, M. Fane, with ■ 541 ft excelled him by three inches and Fane also won the veteran s swimming event from M. H. Houston. Results were: — 1 ’ Junior Bovs’ Handicap, 25 yerds: ■ Ist heat: E.
