HIGH PRICES AT TRENTHAM 2000gns. for Foxbridge Colt CORONACH COLT BRINGS 1,400 GUINEAS. P.A. , WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. At the opening of the National Yearling Sales at Trentham to-day, prices included: 625 guineas by Mr. James Pohlen, of Matamata, for a colt by Robin Goodfellow from Tigrone. The first Coronach to enter the ring, a big chestnut colt with four white stockings reached the same figure, but was not quitted, and was later sold privately at 750 guineas. A brown colt by Coronach from imported Canvasser went to Mr Ken Austin, of the Inglewood Stud, Kaiapoi. for 1400 guineas. LATER. The top price was 2000 guineas, paid by Mr Ken Austin, acting on behalf of Mr J'. Coleman, of Melbourne, for a brown colt by Foxbridge from Administration, at the 18th national sale of thoroughbred yearlings at Trentham to-day. The colt was bred by Mr A. H. Storey, at Te Awamutu, and is a halfbrother to the Auckland Cup winner, Lord Chancellor.

The prices throughout were high for the best bred lots. There were 82 lots sold for an aggregate realisation of 39,015 guineas, an average of 475gns. The previous best average was 415gns in 1930, when .50 lots were sold, and the highest price then was 2400gns. An indication of the outstanding success of to-day’s sale was that last year 157 lots were sold in two days for a total realisation of 39.592gn5., an average of 252gns, with the top price of 1400gns. For- the first time on record. 12 Jots sold above lOOOgns. They were four’ colts by Foxbridge, three by Coronach, three by Robin Goodfellow, and two bv Battle Song. The second best prices were 1600gns, obtained for a colt by Robin Goodfellow from Sunny Maid, bred by Mr J. M. Paul, of Hastings, and bought bp Mr J. R. McKenzie, of Christchurch; a colt by Foxbridge from Ann Acre, bred by the Trelawney Stud, of Cambridge, and bought by Mr J. L. Cheesman, of Wellington, who races the full-sister. Bridge Acre. ' Mr A J. Court, of Auckland, owner of Lord Chancellor, gave 1500gns. for a colt by Robin Goodfellow from Falcon, bred by Mr E. E. Steele, of Windsor Park, Oamaru The most successful vendor was the Trelawney Stud, selling 10 lots for a total of 7975gn5, six colts averaging 927gns, and four fillies 600gns. All, with the exception of a llOOgns colt by Robin Goodfellow, were sired by the Dominion’s leading stallion, ’Foxbridge. Overseas interests were not as well represented .as usual, the .bulk of the offering going to Dominion owners. Two lots were nurchased on behalf of Mr A. Higgins, of India. They were two Battle Song colts, one’ at 1200gns and Ithe other at 700gns. . , ~ In addition to the top priced colt going to Melbourne, Australian owners bought only two lots from the offering. , . Five yearlings by Royal Chief averaged 251gns. the best nrice being 425gns paid by Mr W Bryce, of Trentham, for a chestnut filly out of Fairwood. Two yearlings by Beau Repaire averaged 195gns, the best price being 260gns paid by Mr E. Pope, of Takanini, for a bay colt from Battle Defaulter’s two representatives averaged 462-gns. Mr F.
