CONTROL OF STEEL

Minister’s Statement REQUESTED BY ANGLOAMERICAN MISSION. P.A. WELLINGTON, Dee. 23. The Minister of Supply, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in a statement, referred to the steel control notice number two, which was Gazetted last week. The notice provides for the introduction of a very comprehensive control over steel in as much as from January Ist, 1944, no owner of steel, may sell, supply, or otherwise dispose of steel without receiving approval on the form prescript. The purpose of the notice is to co-ordinate and extend existing controls over the use of steel and bring them into line with those of the governments of the United States and Great Britain. The joint AngloAmerican Steel Mission visited New Zealand some months ago and requested the introduction of control along the lines of the one now being introduced.
