Hiah Tides, Port of Westport: a.m. p.m. Friday, December 24, 07.51 08.16 WESTFORT, Dec. 23. The Titoki is due from Nelson to load for return to-day and the Karepo from Greymouth is to complete for Auckland. The Rata is due today from Nelson to load for Picton. Dr P. L. Foote, has received advice that his son Lieutenant Donald D. Foote, is reported missing. Mrs. Clayworth ,of Richmond, has arrived to spend the holidays with her mother, Mrs. Curtis. Mrs. Hugo Terrill has come from Marlborough to visit relatives and friends here. Private Victor Riley, who has returned from overseas service arrived last evening by rail-car. Mr. J. Kilkenny, junr., arrived tonight from Wellington to spend the holidays with his family. . Mr. and Mrs. Chisholm of Christchurch are visiting Mrs. Chisholm’s father, Mr. Arthur Taylor. Miss D. Bayfield, Waimate is visiting her sister Mrs. Strachan. Mrs. Junker, who has been visiting Christchurch has returned home. Miss D. Humphries, whose marriage to Mr. P. Casey takes place in January has returned from Christchurch. . Mr and Mrs. D. Bowden arrived from Huntlw this evening to spend the Christmas holidays with Mr. W. Bowden. Mrs. Lowe, Sergeant s Hill, has received word that her son, Corporal S.S. Lowe, has been transferred from Italy to a prisoner of war camp in Germanv, Stalag VIIIB. The funeral of the late Cyril Fred; erick Turk took place at Orowaiti Cemetery yesterday. Rev. S. Corney conducted the services and the pall bearers were Messrs F. Jordan, £). Harvey, G. Gilbank, and J. Jennings There was a large number of relatives and friends present. The funeral of the late David Swannie was attended by many friends. Rev. Father Kirby conducted the services at S’t. Canice’s Church and at the graveside, and the pall-bearers were Messrs R. C. Walker, J. Reedy, T. Durkin and M. Coyne. Next Tuesday Scouts from Bullei' troops will leave to join Canterbury Scouts in a camp at Lake Ellesmere. The boys will return on January 8 and later in the month members of St. John’s Troop (Westport) will hold a camp of their own at Inangahua. A movement is afoot for the establishment of a' Scout troop at Millerton.

Mr. G. M. Powell, secretary of the Buller Hospital Board has presented the following report on. receipts and expenditure for two-thirds of the financial year: “For the period under review institutional expenditure is £1,147 above the proportionate estimate but most of this deficiency, I expect will disappear before the close of the year. Other expenditure in aggregate, accoras with the estimates. As it was necessary to advise the Department prior t.o the meeting as to the amount of the bank overdraft required f or the ensuing quarter, in consultation w>th the deputy chairman, a continuation of the present limit of £15,001’ was requested.” The hon. secretary of the Buller District Health Camp Committee advised that arrangements had been made for 20 girls to proceed to Nelson Healtn Camp on Thursday next for a permd of one month. On tne-r return a party of 20 boys will go for a month’s' stay. During ‘ this period two school teachers will be attached to the camp so that the boys will not miss school lessons.
