■j. he annual meeting of the Blackboll School Baths was held the other evening. Mr. Ames Grindle presiding over a fair attendance. The annual balance sheet and report were submitted bv the outo-oins- secretary, Mr. H. Jamieson, (who did not seek re-election) and was endorsed as entirely satisfactory.- The caretaker, (who did not seek re-election) was, with the retiring secretary, awarded a hearty vote of thanks for their work during the season. The folowing officials were elected for the year- Chairman, Mr. Ames Grindle: secretary. Mr. lan MacGougan, Harper Street, Blackball; treasurer: Mrs J. M. Park: committee: Mesdames Cochrane, Morrow, Mayne, MacGougan, Mason and Messrs Bateman, Kirk, Jamieson and E. Maguigan. while Miss J. Quibell was appointed caretaker. . The Patriotic Society held fi“welcome home” for Gunner E. A. C. Holmes, only son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Holmes, Clifford Street, who Iv arrived back from- the Middle East. The hall was filled to capacity. A hand-round tea was served. Mr. J. Bateman took occasion to formally welcome Gunner Holmes, expressing the pleasure it ~ave them to see him home attain. On behalf of the society, he presented him with a sum of money Gunner Holmes, who was received with musical honours, thanked all for their welcome and generosity. Music for dancing, which continued to a late hour, wa« provided bv Mrs. Bateman (niano) and Mr. AGrindle (cornet). SCHOOL SPORTS GATHERING. Glorious weather conditions favoured the holding of the annual athletic championshinq of the Blackball School. The track was in excellent order, and, with the usual keen interest displayed bv the children, the standards of previous years were well maintained and, in some events, excelled. A feature of the meeting was the record established by James Haisty who registered 15 feet 2i ins. in the long - jump. Fancy dress ball.—On Tuesday everting last, the Miners’ Hall was crowded to capacity when the annual Children’s Fancy Dress Ball was staged. In spite of the present scarcity of materials, a very large number ofi the children appeared in fancy dresses and costumes, the originality and design of which surpassed the line standard set last year.
