PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

INDUCTION OF REV. T. G. CAMPBELL.

The induction of : Rev. T. G. Campbell, formerly of Dunedin, took place at St. 'John’s Presbyterian Church last evening when a large congregation was nrosent Owing to the former Minister. Rev. A. S. Horwell undertaking Army Chaplain's duty and overseas, the parish of St. John’s was rendered vacant almost a year, Mr. Horwell having resigned the charge when he found his going overseas wa s inevitable. A pleasing gesture was made bv the Congregation of the Sumner Presbyterian Church which loaned their Minister, Rev. W. Martin, to Greymouth for six months. It was at the end of this .-period that Mr. Horewell decided to resign, and steps were at once take to fill the vacancy. Rev. A. K Hadfield of Hokitika was appointed Interim-Moderator, & recently recommended Rev. T. G. Campbell to St. John’s congregation. A well signed call resulted in Mr. Campbell’.! acceptances of the charge. The Rev. John Doig of Ross, Moderator of the Westland Presbytery, presided at the induction, assisted by Revs. Brittell of Runanga, A. McNeur of Westport, and A. K. Hadfield of Hokitika. At the conclusion of the induction those present joined in a social gathering in the Church Hall where Rev. A.- K. Hadfield presided and formally welcomed the Rev. Campbell. His remarks were supported by Messrs A. Kilpatrick (session). J. McKenzie (managers'). C. Gunn (youth and the church). Rev. J. Doig (Presbytery'), Rev. Hoddinott (Ministers’ Association) and Mrs. Chisholm (women of the church). After Rev. T. G. Campbell had replied to the remarks of the speakers, Mr. J. Tennent on behalf of the congregation made a presentation to Rev. A K. Hadfield in appreciation of his services, as Interim-Moderator. Prior t- supper being handed round the newl-v inducted Minister conducted worship/* and pronounced the Benediction; -
