An artfully constructed tale which delightfully harmonises superb nonsense, whimsical romance, . deft drama and a leavening of sentimentality, Frank Capra’s “You Can’t Take It With You.” with a perfect cast wh ch includes Jean Arthur, L’.onel Barrymore. James Stewart, Edward Arnold, Mischa Auer .and Ann Miller, is now showing at the Opera House. The film is the heart-warming story of two families whose philosophies of life are poles apart. One family, presided over by happy-go-lucky Grandpa Vanderhof, lives merrily iri a sufficient-unto-the-day atmosphere of untroubled fun. The other familj, the social-conscious, money-grubbing power-mad Kirbys, are wealth worshippers. The families clash when the Kirby son and the Vanderhof grand-daughter fall in love. Tony Kirby, not so dollarbound as his father, nor so classconscious as his mother, believes his parents are genuine at heart and that contact with the Vanderhofs will change their attitude towards his marriage to Alice. But the meeting of the two 1 families is marked by an •exhibition ol Vanderhof good humour which winds up with everybody—the Kirbys as well as the Vanderhofs —in gaol on suspicion of anarchism! Parade,” starring Deanna Durbin.” Hailed by critics as the best picture in which she has ever appeared', Deanna Durbin’s production “Spring Parade” is now showing at the Regent Theatre. Presenting Deanna is a village maid who goes to the city in search of the destiny foretold her by' a fortune teller;’’ the story involves the star in her first real romance or the screen. She meets and falls in love .with Robert Cummings. Amid romantic surroundings the story unfolds in an atmosphere and background more beautiful than any which have appeared in Deanna’s pictures. Deanna sings four numbers in the offering; three of them from the pen of tne famous Vienese composer, Robert Stolz. The fourth, “Blue Danube Dream” is an adaption by Hans Salter. Supporting the star are such players as Robert Cummings, Mischa Auer, Henry Stephenson, Butch and Buddy, Ann Gywnn, Walter Catlett and man'' others.
