Australia and N.Z. I MR NASH’S DECLARATION. (Rec. 12.0.) SYDNEY, Dec. 21. Hon. Walter Nash, N.Z. Minister to the United States who has to-day arrived here, said in an interview - :— “Australia and New Zealand will have joint responsibility for the maintaining of peace in the Pacific after the war. Unitv between Australia and New Zealand is not only desirable, but it is necessary, if our countries are honestly to act up to their responsibilities as guardians of peace and progress in the Pacific.’’ Mr. Nash said that he was not in Australia in anv official capacity, but he was taking an apportunity of seeing something of the latest developments in Australia’s war effort before he returns to the United States. He said he had heard amazing accounts of Australia’s war effort. The New Zealand press was full of praise for the magnificent fighting of the Australian troops in NewJjuinea. Mr. Nash said he re'*'"' * d completed a tour " Pacific battle New Zealanders were engaged. The fame of the A.I.F. was well known to New Zealanders in the Solomons. Mr. Nash said that he would not have time to visit Australian war plants, but he intended to call on Mr. Curtin and on some of the Cabinet Ministers.
