SEAMEN’S STRIKE

IN AUSTRALIA Nine Crews Dismissed [Aust. & N.Z. Press Assn.] (Rec. 11.50) CANBERRA, Dec. 21. The crews of nine ships in an Australian port failed to take their vessels to sea. They have been dismissed. The men thus dismissed immediately have become liable for a callup in the armed service. The Commonwealth Government is stated to be determined to take a strong stand against the demands of the striking seamen. The officials are amazed by the hold-ups of ships, in view of the outcome of a recent Sydney meeting of seamen, who voted, by a majority of 210 votes to 15. to take all ships to sea. The cause of the strike has not been revealed. The strike originated in Melbourne, and it extended to Sydney, where there are a number of vessels now delayed.
