(Rec. 9.15) OTTAWA, Dec. 16. Commenting on the reports from Australia that tank production there is being abandoned, Canadian munition officials have revealed that Canada’s tank production was halved some months ago, and it has since undergone further reduction. The Canadian (Press Association says: Canada has ceased building the valentine tanks altogether. All of the belligerent nations are reducing tank production, because massed guns have become effective counter weapons. _ _ United States War Department officials said that their original tank production schedules have been somewhat reduced, due to large quantities already produced. They said tanks are used on a small scale in Italy owing to the bad weather and terrain. The” added that too high an assessment was probably - placed on the value of tanks, due to the Germans’ effectiveness with them during the early part of the war.
