AWARDS TO AUSTRALIANS (Rec. 6.30) RUGBY, Dec. 12. The Australian civilians who have been commended by the King for brave conduct, ar e now receiving a special badge issued by the command of the King, and a certificate signed ■by the Prime Minister (Mr Curtin). First instituted early in 1940 the Civil Commendation Award was made to civil defence workers and others throughout Britain. It ranks after the .George Cross, the George Medal, and the British Empire Medal. Awards are being made for brave conduct following the Japanese raid on Darwin and the north-west coast of Australia and the first Japanese attacks on New Guinea.
