THEFT CHARGES

P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 12 . Charged with the theft of eighty shares in the Canterbury Frozen Meat Co” valued at £1,200, the property of Jane Todd, of Leithfield, Joseph Charles Marks, aged 37, described as a labourer and cook, ol Scotland, and Stephen Arthur Williamson. aged 45, a truck driver, oi Christchurch, were remanded until December 17 when they appeared m the Magistrate’s Court before Mr. E C. Levvey, S.M. Detective-Sergeant A. A. Herron said that Marks was arrested as he came off the inter-island ferry steamer this morning and Williamson was arrested at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. ,Mr. W. R. Lascelles, who appeared [or both the accused, asked for bail. Bail was not opposed bv the police, Mr. Herron said that although the shares had been recovered with the assistance of the accused, there was a further charge pending involving anothei’ £4OO. He asked that bail should be substantial. Bail was fixed at £5OO each with two sureties of £5OO each.
