HOKITIKA NOTES

[Our Own Correspondent], HOKITIKA, Nov. 30. The death occurred at Westland Hospital of Mr. Septimus Foster of Hampden Street, Hokitika. A native of Hokitika, he was 61 years of age, and all his life had worked on the West Coast, having been engaged on numbers of Public Works Department undertakings. He had been ailing for a lengthy period. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. Foster, he leaves one sister, Mrs. C. Stewart, of Hokitika, and several nephews and nieces. Advice has been received by Mrs. E. E. Morris of Weld Street, Hokitika, that her son Lieutenant Robert William Morris, has been awarded the Military Cross in recognition of gallant distinguished service in the Middle East. , Mrs. Thomas and daughter Rosalie, of Weld Street, have left for Wellington en route to Australia where they will visit relations. Hon. James O’Brien, Minister of Transport, was a visitor to Hokitika this week. The death occurred at Feilding, on Saturday, of Mrs. Edith Rodden, formerly Mrs. Cooper, a native of Hokitika, aged 67 years. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Upjonn, of Rimu, she resided at Rimu for many years. Predeceased oy her second husband four years ago, she leaves a family of twelve. There are eight daughters, Mrs. C. Bell (Rimu), Mrs. W. Adam (Stillwater), Mrs. L. Rasmussen (Three Mile), Mi's. H. Owen (Woodstock), Mrs. J. Manera (Kuatapu), Mrs. A. Owen (Karangaroa). Mrs. W. Hazeldine (Ruatapu), and Miss M. Cooper (Feilding). The four sons are, Robert (Nelson), Albert (Belfast), George (Kotuku), and Alfred (Lyttelton). There are two sisters. Mrs. W. Berry (Harihari), and Mrs. T. Merriman (Runanga), and one brother, Mr. C. Upjohn (Hokitika).
