Mr. M. K. B. Sheard left yesterday morning for Christchurch.

Mr. J. Stokes left yesterday morning for Christchurch.

The Bishop of Melanesia (Rt. Rev. W. H. Baddeley) will arrive in Greymouth to-morrow.

Messrs G. ,E. English, S. Morris and T. Bowes, of Runanga, left yesterday for Wellington to interview the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan).

The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. S. G. Holland! and Mr. F. W. Doidge, M.P., will return this week from Australia.

Mr H. E. McClelland, Inspector of Machinery, who had received notice of transfer to New Plymouth, has since been advised that the transfer is cancelled, and that he is to remain, in Greymouth.

Mr. C. W. Browne, formerly of Greymouth and latterly Chief Postmater at Timaru, who has had more than 40 years’ service with the Post Office retired yesterday. Mr. F. S. Schaab succeeded him.

Miss Elsie Gilmore, who will shortly marry Mr. Walter Dunn, was the ‘guest on Saturday evening at a kitchen evening at the Lyceum Hall arranged by Mrs. J. Stone and other friends. 'The good wishes of the gathering were expressed to Miss Gilmore and her fiance by Mr. P. Coll.

The Minister of Railways (Mr. Semple) said yesterday that the General Manager, Mr. Casey, who has completed over 41 years’ service, has requested permission to retire, stated a Press Association message. Cabinet has decided to comply with his request, and has instructed Mr. Semple to convey to Mr. Casey its appreciation of his long and devoted service. Cabinet has also approved the appointment of the present Assistant General Manager. Mr. J. Sawers, to the position of General Manager.
