The death ‘ occurred at Welhngton on Monday of Mrs Ellen Grace, formerly of Greymouth, who for many years had a fruit and confectionery shop in Mawhera Quay. She went to live in Wellington some years ago.

Sgt. A. A. Treloar, formerly of the Public Works Department, Westport, and now of the Railway Construction and Maintenance Group, has been promoted to the rank of Captain, according to a Gazette notice.

The funeral of Mr J’oseph Davies, of Wallsend, was held at Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The large attendance included many miners and members of the R.S.A. Rev. E. S. Hoddinott conducted the service at the graveside, where the Last Post was sounded.

A London cablegram stated that Mrs Reginald McKenna, the widow of Rt. Hon. Reginald McKenna, who died last month, was killed when, she fell out of a train between Guildford and London. She was a sister-in-law to Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg.

The New Zealand soldier composer, Denis Mulgan, mentioned in a cable from London yesterday, is a son of Mr Geoffrey Mulgan, of Oxford, England, and a nephew of Mr Alan Mulgan of the National Broadcasting Service staff at Wellington, states a Press Association message from. Wellington. He was born in Auckland, but was educated in England, and took up music as a career with the oboe as his instrument. He has also done some conducting. The cable message said that Mr Mulgan, who is now fighting in Italy, composed between battles in Tunisia, a suite for oboe and strings, which has been given its premiere in Oxford byLeon Goosens and a Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dr Thomas Armstrong.

The funeral of the late Mr. George William Harrison took place at Karoro Cemeterv yesterday morning and was largely attended. At St. Patrick’s Church, where there was a large congregation. Solemn Requiem. Mass was celebrated by Rev. Dr. G. Harrison of Christchurch, son of Mr. Harrison. Rev. Father A. C. Gregory was Deacon and Rev. Father D. Healy (Kumara), Sub-Deacon. Rev. Father J. Holohan (Runanga);. was Master of Ceremonies. The music of the Mass was sung by a choir of priests including Rev. Fathers D. Nolan and T. O’Brien (Reefton), P. A. Joyce, P. Timonev and P. Keegan. (Christchurch), J. Keane (Hokitika) and J. Maguire (Ros£)<_ The service at the graveside was conducted by Very. Rev. Father J. Long, assisted by visiting and local clergy.

The death occurred yesterday afternoon at the Grey River Hospital of Mr. Thomas Steel Craig, a wellknown resident of Matai, in his 61st. year. He was the onlv son of the; late Thomas and Eliza Craig, of Matai, and had resided there all his life. A man of genial disposition, he had been associated with the Presbyterian Churches in the Grey Valley for many years and was a Colour Sergeant in the Salvation Army at Greymouth. He had been ailing only a brief period. His death will be regretted by a wide circle of friends, whose sympathy will be extended to his relatives in their loss. Besides his wife he leaves one son, David; and five sisters, Mrs. G. C. Jacobs (Riverview, Rotomanu), Mrs. Fred Jacobs (Kilgour Road, Greymouth), and Misses M., J., and B. Craig, (Matai). The funeral will take place at the Karoro Cemetery to-morrow.
