NATIONAL PARTY

CAUCUS OPENED. I P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. I A two-day Caucus of the Parlia-I mentary section of the National Party opened to-day. There was af full attendance, except for Colonel] Hargest, who is in Switzerland, after escaping from a prisoner of war camp! in Italy. One of the important proposals by the leader to come up for discussion relates to the setting up of a small committee so that in a systematic way the specialised knowledge of members in their own sphere can be utilised to deal with every phase of political activity. Particular attention is to be given to rehabilitation and post-war reconstruction, domestic and international"; also the question of international finance in relation to New Zealand trade, the cost of living in the Dominion, and production and marketing methods. The strengthening of the Party as a result of the General Election is expected' to result in its being able to function more effectively In Parliament with less strain on individuals.
