MORE MEAT
Wanted from Australia 'CIVILIANS TO BE RATIONED. (Rec. 11 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 22 The rationing of meat, for civilians, by coupon, will be introduced in Australia in the near future. The ration will at least equal that of Canada, two pounds of meat per person weekly. This is much higher than in most of the warring countries. Meat production in Australia is not keeping pace with the demand. The latest estimates indicate that next year requirements, based on normal civilian consumption, will be one-third higher than the probable production. The authorities emphasise that Bri-
tain needs every} ounce of meat that Australia can send to her, and that huge quantities will have to be supplied to fighting forces in the South-
west Pacific and the South Pacific. The Australian and the American | soldiers are set about one pound of meat each per day.
