FOOD SHORTAGES
PROBLEM IN INDIA. ■ LONDON, July 14. The Secretary of State for India (Mr Amery) told the House of Commons that the policy of the Government of India in meeting the present difficult food situation and the resulting rise in prices, was founded on the division of the country into regions with a view to the transfer of supplies from surplus areas to those W'here. there is a deficit. The measures • were not wholly successful and consequently the Government. had. called an All India food conference early last month. The conference recommendations, which were being, acted upon, included early extension of rationing control of stocks, to counter hoarding, and the procurement of surpluses by the Government.
