RUNANGA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent) The Runanga Borough Council at its meeting on Tuesday, decided shift the playing area at the Recreation Ground further towa-ds_the road. Messrs L. Hunter and O. O Con nell. from the League , Club, had waited on the council regarding ~ bad condition of the playing area, saying that two matches last weekend had had to be transferred to another ground. They suggested that the area be shifted. The Mayor (Mr E W. Kennedy) presided at tne meeting and also present were Crs. S. O’Neil, W. Williams, J. Luff, C. Barrow and A. Auld. A complaint by Mr F Tinning, Dunollie, about wandering stock, was referred to the police. The Department of Health reported that the sample of the water supply was satisfactory. Mr A Ward was given permission to lay drainage pipes under the footpath in McGowan Street. The Town Clerk reported that two applications for septic tanks had been granted by the Health Inspector. It was decided to seek permission to employ another man on Scheme 13. It was also decided to draw the Building Inspector’s attention to the number of new buildings being erected without permits. The report of the Works Committee, which was referred to the foreman, stated that the vacant section near he railway at Seddon Street was overgrown and needed clearing, and that a street light was required at the corner of Ballance and Plunket Streets. Matters requiring attention were: — Drains in Carroll and Seddon Sts.; the camber of the road at the corner of Hall Jones and Ward Sts.; and the drain through the vacant drainage section in Ward St. It was decided to approach the Mines Department asking that the Inverness St. extension be extended to the full width, as at present it was a oneway7 road only. The Town Clerk reported that approximately 200 drivers’ licenses have been issued out of a total of 260. Accounts totalling £l3 4s 2d were passed for payment. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs D. Kendrick who had received a crushed ankle as a result of a collision with the Borough Io try.
