LEAGUE FOOTBALL

WIN FOR BLACKBALL. The only League game playpd yesterday was the Blackball-Marist match played at Ngahere. Atrocious weather conditions prevailed with everything from hail and rain to a gusty wind, the only reason the game being played was to finalise the competition and . the win for Blackball nuts them in an unassailable position. The full-time score was Blackball 23, Marist nil, while at half-time Blackball led 8 points t 0 nil. There was no chance of any open play, the ground being very heavy. The Marist team, however, put up a creditable fight and with good conditions would have made the score much closer. Tries for Blackball were scored by W. Mountford (5), M. Ord and J. Williams and J. McNaughton kicked a penalty. Mr. L. Kinsella was referee. Next week-end, Blackball seniors will travel to Christchurch to play a Christchurch League team, probably the Sv-denham-Rakaia thirteen. . The first round of the Bradshaw Cup will be played next Sunday, anrt Reefton' will be included in the teams for the competition.
