A Chinese communique announces that Chinese .forces recaptured Changtinsu, Tienchengwang Chaokhuyuan and Huiliuwang, which ate all strategical points on the Tutu River, across the Yangtse from Shasi. „ . Executing a pincer movement against the Japanese in coastal Kwangtung province, north-west ot Canton, Chinese troops inflicted several hundred casualties, and restored the original positions. Fighting is also reported west of Swatow, where the Japanese launched a new offensive. Observers said that in both areas, the Japanese were testing the Chinese strength, dispersing possible concentrations, and looting everything of value. . The Chinese Agriculture Ministry disclosed that land cultivation in free China has increased by seven million acres since the beginning ot 1943. The production of foodstuffs in 1942 increased by forty-eight million piculs over 1941.
