THE REVENUE
Here are the revenue figures for the four railways as they changed from 1938 to 1942. They are selfexplanatory:— 1938 £2^: 1939 ... £36,9a2,450 4949 ' £38,607,469 1941 £39,763.265 1942 £40.136,742 The rising revenues have very much to do with the war, with the transport of our soldiers and war materials, with the unending efforts of our railway men and women, day and night, and during air attacks. They have nothing whatsoever to do with any self-denying stockholders. We can’ well do without them —in peace as well as in war. Eut where are the people's—not the owners’—“specially appointed committees to examine these questions closely and carefully?” Tribune
