LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

PA WELLINGTON, June 8. 'The Island Territories Bill, External Affairs Bill, and the Patents, Designs and Trademarks Amendment Bill, were introduced in the Legislative Council to-day, and read a first time. x .. The Council paid a tribute to the work for transport in Christchurch and for the sport of trotting in New Zealand, of the late Mi 1 William Hayward, of Christchurch, who was a member of the Legislative Council from 1934 to 1941, and who died last week. The Council adjourned as a mark of respect to his memory until to-morrow. This is further indication that New Zealand is becoming full grown, said Hon. T. Bloodworth when the External Affairs Bill, providing for control of the Dominion’s overseas activities, was read the second time. The Island Territories Bill, and the Patents, Designs and Trademarks Amendment Bill were also read a second time.
