FRIENDLY SOCIETIES
N.Z. COUNCIL MEETING PA. WELLINGTON, June 4. A deputation representing the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies placed before Mx- Nash .and Mr Nordmeyer several problems affecting soldier members of Friendly Societies. The proposed re-insurance of 'funeral risk in respect to soldiei’ members, also the proposed payment of their friendly society contributions from the Soldiers’ Financial Assistance Board, and the question of the ■ deduction of lodge sick pay from economic and other pensions, were discussed with Mr Nash, who agreed to place the matters before Cabinet. The annual conference was attended by representatives of nearly all the friendly societies from different parts of the Dominion. It also discussed the reduced membership since the operation of the Social Security Act. the medical fees charged by certain doctors in excess of the amounts prescribed by the Social Security Act, and the operation of credit unions by friendly societies.
