tOur Own Correspondent.] ■ The Millerton mine has worked the last two back Saturdays. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre left dUrmg the week for Wellington. Mr J Strang was admitted to the Westport Hospital, having received an injury in the Mangatoria section of the Mine Creek mine, through a fall of coal from the roof. . Mrs J. McGrath and her two children have returned to Westpoit after spending a holiday at Millerton. Mr J. Tiplady, Millerton, ha s left on a visit to Wellington. At the usual meeting of the local Miners’ Union Mr W. Watson presiding, a circular from Mr Benny (Under-Secretary of Mines) was dealt with, also a letter from Mr R. McGregor (secretary, Buller Trades and Labour Council). The secretary was directed to claim payment for Granity coke oven workers. The manager of th e company wrote re Saturday work, and it was decided that the Union request the employment of all shiftmen and as many other workers as are required on nonproducing Saturdays. The Westpoit Coal Co. wrote re the Union’s claim for loose and fallen coal, which claim is to go to a disputes committee. It was decided to make a claim for members affected as to holiday pay for soldiers. Messrs Joyce and Taylor, Greymouth wrote re payment of members when on compensation. The W.C. Coy. wrote re contract trucking in the mines, the the meeting being of opinion this matter should be decided by a Coal Council. Discussing the cavil, members maintained that seventeen pairs of miners should be kept on coal. Mr Watson, Union delegate to the Buller Central Committee, gave a report on a meeting held in Westport. . It was decided to grant £2 2s to the Plunket Society. The Union held a special meeting to receive a report from the District National delegate, Mr A. McArthur, on the Wellington conference. He remarked that he would have liked to have dealt with the political situation and forthcoming general election, and the necessity for the return of the Labour Party to govern the country, but owing to the small attendance he would leave this till a later date. '
Ranger seniors last Sunday were beaten by Ngakawau at Rugby football by 26 to nil at Ngakawau. At Soccer, Stockton seniors beat Millerton here by 2 to nil, and Stockton schoolboys beat the local boys by 2 to nil. Mr C. Orman refereed the games. All look forward to Sunday’s rep Soccer match here for the Peter Dawson Cup between Buller and Canterbury. Young players comprise the local team and should give a good display. Mr C. Steele (Stockton) will be referee. In to-day’s match at Westport against Canterbury;' the Buller team will include two Millerton men, A. Cummings and G. Anderson. At the School Committee’s fortyfives tourney on 'Tuesday night, Mrs G. J'effries and Mr A. Peggie were the prize winners, while Mrs T. Budd and Mr G. Walsh won at the Patriotic Committee’s whist drive on Monday night.
