GREY COUNTY FINANCES
A financial statement on Thursday presented to the Grey County' Council at its annual meeting, covering the year ended March 31, last, showed receipts for the year as £40,103 Is 6d, compared with the estimated figure of £43,320, and the 1943 receipts of £49,853 3s 7d. Details are as follows, the receipts in each case being followed first by the estimated figures, in parenthesis, and secondly, by the receipts for 1942: — Rates collected £11,004 4s 9d (£10,500) £11,483 7s 3d; Vehicle licenses, £3,607 19s lOd (£3,200) £3,873 6s lid; Sundry licenses, £450 15s (£400) £452 6s 9d; Royalties and rents £317 7s (£280) £133 7s; Sales! The Chairman (Cr J. Mulcare) re-
marked that the year had been reasonably satisfactory. There had been .a great shortage of labour and some of the work the Engineer would have liked to put in hand he had not been able to do so. The balance in the present statement, together with that carried over from the previous year, largely represented work that had been deferred because of the shortage of labour, and which it would be necessary to have done.
