Opera House Finally To-night; “Night in New Orleans” and “Arizona Bound.” Next Attraction (commences tomorrow, Friday): “Lady from Louisiana” and “Atlantic Convoy.” “LADY FROM LOUISIANA” Stirring, romantic adventure set in the world’s most glamorous city, “Lady from Louisiana” commences at the Opera House to-morrow (Fri.). Miss Munson is cast as the beautiful and imperious daughter of the New Orleans lottery promoter, played by Henry Stephenson. John Wayne is the‘young crusading Yankee brought down to the southern metropolis by reformer Helen Westley to put the lottery out of business. The two meet—“ The Lady from Louisiana” and the crusading Yankee —fall in love and give rise to dramatic complications when the southern belle’s father is killed. Feeling that the man she loves is responsible, “The Lady from Louisiana” tries to expel him from her heart, but love finds a way—as it ever does —and the picture, ends in happy reunion.
“ATLANTIC CONVOY” Breath-taking action, fabulous adventure and thundering thrills are all combined in “Atlantic Convoy,” ■ with Bruce Bennett, Virginia Field and John Beal in leading roles commences at the Opera House to-mor--1 row (Friday). The story takes place at a small flying ba'se somewhere in Iceland, where Bennett, a Captain in the Marine Corps, is entrusted with the job of protecting Atlantic convoys. Infuriated at recent torpedoings, most of the Marines at the base suspect their weatherman, (played by Beal, of tipping off local Nazis as to convoy departures, etc. Before their suspicions can be confirmed or repudiated, Miss Field enters the scene, when a ship, on which she was fleeing from Europe, is torpedoed. One of her fellow-survivors is revealed as a Nazi agent and he manages to implicate Beal in his affairs. A number of hair-raising incidents then take place, but the film comes to a smashing climax when Beal, really an ex-Marine, proves his innocence by heroically risking his life in order to protect the Marine harbour from a devastating explosion!
Regent Theatre Finally To-night: “Lady in A Jam.” Commencing Friday: “My Favourite Blonde,” starring Bob Hope and 1 Madeleine Carroll.
Bob Hope, Madeleine Carroll an } d a penguin named Percy lead some Nazi spies through a series of hilarious adventures in the latest Paramount comedy, “My Favourite Blonde.” Faster and funnier than all previous Bob Hope pictures rolled into one. The picture presents Madeleine in the title role, with Hope .as a ham vaudeville actor who has obtained a Hollywood contract because of his partner, Percy, a trained penguin. Madeleine, a beautiful British secret agent, is l bound for Los Angeles with flight plans fo'- the. U.S. Army Air Corps when she barges in on the startled Hope and announces she’s going to accompany him to Hollywood. The picture doesn’t lag for a single second. Gale Sondergaard heads the spy gang and has the able assistance of such screen villains as George Zucco, Lionel Royce, Walter Kingsford, Victor Varconi. To miss seeing “My Favourite Blonde” would be a minor tragedy. HEALTH RALLY. The Health Rally which is to be held in Greymouth under the auspices of the Health Department, should be of interest to every person. An invitation is extended to all members of the public to attend at the Lyceum Hall next Tuesday, at 7.30 p.m. Extremely interesting and helpful films will be shown on a talkie machine. A physical culture instructor will give a talk and show films on physical education. There will be health exhibits, a. children’s poster exhibition and a play by children. The children have taken part already in this campaign by entering for essay and poster competitions. The prizes for these will be presented at the children’s session on Wednesday.
