On Tuesday morning an accident occurred on the Buller Gorge road, whereby Mr Robert Cropp, driver of a road'grader, was fatally injured. 'His grader left the road with the result that Cropp was pinned under it and killed. He was 35 years of age. He leaves a wife and two children. Mesdames Yapes and Bradnock of Wellington are visiting relatives on th e West Coast, and are at present, the guests of Mrs Lambert, Carter’s Junction.
Miss Nova Doyle was a visitor to Westport on Saturday. Miss Bud Brown is visiting her parents, Mr, and Mrs. J. C. Brown, Queen Street. Mr. C. Potter was re-elected President, unopposed, and Mr. B. J. Mathewson was elected Vive-president- of the local branch of the R.S.A. at the annual meeting on Saturday. The death occurred at the Buller Hospital yesterday afternoon of Mr. L. Fletcher, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Fletcher. Peel Street/ Although Lionel had not been in the best of health for some time, his death was quite unexpected and will be a shock to his many friends throughout the Buller district. While unable to take an active part in sport he was always a sporting enthusiast and followed with great interest the doings of his many young friends. To his mother and father, and his sisters, Mrs. Boyd (Seddonville), Mrs. McWilliam (Melbourne), and Mrs. Robertson (Woodville), the sympathy of th R community is extended. The Poppy Dav appeal was well responded to bv the public, £llO being received. ' Mr. J. M. Robertson, chairman of Buller District Patriotic Committee acknowledges the following donations for soldiers’ parcels: Stockton Women’s Institute, per Mary Smith. 6s; Mrs. J. Neighbours 6s; Mrs. T. Quinn 6s. The Westport Ministers’ Association conducted the Anzac Day service in St. James Theatre on Sunday afternoon. The Mayor, Mr. Robertson, presiding, Returned Soldiers. Girl! Guides, and some of the Allied services turned out in good numbers. There were many floral tributes placed at the Gates of Remembrance.
