AUSTRALIAN ARMY

CAUTIONED AGAINST WASTE. SYDNEY, April 9. A direction to Australian troops to avoid waste of materials, money and manpower is contained in a special order issued by the Commander-in-Chief (Sir T. Blarney). “Severe demands ar P being made upon the financial resources of tne nation both by taxation and loan,” he stated." “People providing that money are entitled to be. assured it is used with the greatest possible economy. This involves the most careful examination of every itejn of expenditure and meticulous care in the employment of available manpower.. Men should not be employed on duties for which women are suitable. All members of the Australian military forces must be ready, if the necessity arises, to adopt Spartan conditions of existence, which circumstances have enforced upon the fighting soldier in the areas of the actual battle. It is ‘the special and immediate duty of every officer and soldier to take whatever action is within his authority to prevent wasteful divergence of national resources.”
